Ebenezer Scrooge’s heartwarming story sets the mood for Christmas upcoming winter in 2025.

The highly popular A Christmas Carol returns to the grand Tieva stage in winter 2025. The new premiere will be held on Wednesday, November 26th. First premiered in November 2024, A Christmas Carol was a great success both with audiences and critics. Nearly every performance was sold out.

”We said goodbye to last Christmas’ performances only three weeks ago, but we are already eagerly looking forward to future. Thus, we will also offer the locals and those visiting here an engaging and delightful Christmas experience this coming winter,” says Miikka Keränen, executive director of the Rovaniemi Theatre.

In previous years, the Rovaniemi Theatre has staged well-loved traditional Christmas plays, among the most famous being Pukin punainen (The Red of Santa Claus), which was performed several years around the turn of the millennium, and the family friendly play Joulutarina (A Christmas Story), staged years 2016-2018.

The play is based on Charles Dickens’ novella A Christmas Carol, first published in 1843. Since its publication, it has captivated hearts worldwide in numerous stage and film adaptations.

The dramatization of the play is by British playwright Patrick Barlow. In this exhilarating and even heart-wrenching stage version, Barlow skillfully incorporates the quick-witted British humor. The Finnish-language premiere of this production was seen at the Rovaniemi Theatre in 2024.

The play is directed by Johanna Freundlich at the Rovaniemi Theatre. Visuals are by Mark Väisänen. The role of Ebenezer Scrooge is once again played by Rovaniemi Theatre actor Kari Koivukangas.

The performance will have English subtitles. The subtitles can be viewed from rows 6-14, but for the best experience, it’s recommended to book seats in rows 10-14. The subtitles were highly praised during A Christmas Carol’s previous season, because it serves not only tourists but also those learning Finnish, for example.

Tickets will be on sale immediately.
